Chancellor Rishi Sunak has unveiled the contents of his Budget in the House of Commons. He announced new measures to help business and jobs through the pandemic and to support the UK's businesses. In particular, the business rates holiday for retail firms in England has been extended until June with a 75% discount after that. This is surely a powerful shoot for the high street; however, CPA would have expected a much longer extension, very much in the example that Scotland has set in their extension until the April 2022. The long-term effects of the pandemic, along with the archaic rating system in the UK will only add to the suffering of the retail sector.
