Commercial Property Advisors (CPA) notes with pleasure the wide-ranging list of 45 Towns Fund recipients.
This vital injection of money, to finance face-lifts to our pandemic-ravaged high streets should help produce a serious -albeit limited - alternative to shutters and graffiti.
Since the awards were announced, in March 2021, the plight of physical retail has deteriorated to such a point that CPA is now calling for a far more ambitious programme of urban renewal. A programme that could easily be self-funding!
If some of the revenue from levies on digital trading were hypothecated for high street regeneration, the long-overdue payback by online giants to bricks and mortar businesses would be simple, strikingly visible, and a sign of poetic justice in action.
