Choosing a Rating Agent: Don't Fall for Empty Promises!

When it comes to appointing a rating agent for your business, it's crucial to make a wise and informed decision. Unfortunately, we've witnessed cases where business owners were approached by agents promising the world, only to encounter upfront fees, hidden costs, or even the risk of higher rates.

To safeguard your interests, consider selecting a reputable rating agent who adheres to industry standards. Three leading professional bodies - the Rating Surveyors' Association (RSA), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation - have jointly published a set of standards that outline the dos and don'ts for rating agents.

It's important to note that simply using terms like 'surveyor,' 'rating advisor,' or 'rating consultant' doesn't necessarily indicate membership in a professional body or adherence to the rating agent standards.

Before signing any contract, always conduct a thorough background check on the firm or individual, ensuring their professional status aligns with your expectations. Pay close attention to the contract terms, including its duration, and ensure you have a clear understanding of the services you're paying for, associated costs, and any additional fees involved.

At our firm, we take pride in being a RICS-regulated company with a seasoned team of surveyors. Our commitment to excellence and adherence to professional standards provide you with peace of mind and a trustworthy partnership.
